Career

Asmir's career began when he joined the academy of Kirchhausen, where he trained with the youth team and climbed the system ladder. In 2003 Asmir’s performance drew the attention of English side Portsmouth, who invited the him on a trial. After he successfully passed all necessary tests, he officially moved to the academy of Portsmouth and spent two years there before making a start at a professional level.

In 2005 Asmir signed a contract with Portsmouth. The same year he went on a season-long loan to La Louvière, where he was given an opportunity to make only two appearances. The following year the Asmir continued his performance on loan at Macclesfield Town and featured in four games for the club during one season.

In 2007 Asmir completed a move to Bournemouth on a season-long loan making a start in nine matches for the club. In 2008 Asmir finalised a temporary move to Yeovil Town, where he was given the chance to appear for them 16 times as a first-choice goalkeeper over the course of two seasons. His last loan spell fell at Ipswich Town under the management of Roy Keane, where he made six appearances.

In the summer of 2010, Stoke City secured Asmir’s services where he is now a regular starter and has secured the number 1 jersey. He has made 136 appearances for the club, scoring 1 goal.

On the 13th July 2015, Asmir signed with Chelsea Football Club, making the transfer from Stoke City for £8.4 million.

On 30 May 2017, Asmir signed for Premier League club Bournemouth on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

Asmir also represents the Bosnia & Herzegovina national team.
