Nicolle was born and raised in the United States splitting her time between the rolling Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee and the hot and happening beaches of Miami and West Palm Beach, Florida. Western riding and Rodeo’s were prolific in Nicolle’s Tennessee hometown of Mountain City, and that was the start of a life long love affair with horses. Relocating to the UK when she was 10 wasn’t the easiest of transitions for a child. It was horses that she turned to for assurance and familiarity, and that’s when she was introduced to Dressage. Tina Layton, on her Grand Prix mare Pik Dame, showed Nicolle the beauty and skill of Dressage at its highest level. Then during one of her first lessons at the Contessa Riding Centre, Nicolle became instantly hooked on the style.
Horses were a staple throughout Nicolle’s school life whilst she progressed from achieving 11 GCSE’s to attaining 4 A-Level’s with the intention of eventually qualifying as an Equine Vet. However she felt at the time that if she wanted to focus more on the riding then she needed to take her career in a different direction. She decided to play on her mathematical strengths, and became an accountant.
In 2006, during her second year at University studying to be an accountant, that she met her husband Asmir Begovic. He is a professional goalkeeper for the Premier League football team Chelsea FC and plays at International level for his country, Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the time they met, he was then just trying to break into the first team at Portsmouth from the reserve ranks. They later married in 2011 in London.
Today, Nicolle has dedicated herself full-time to her passion, Dressage. She is based and trains with top Dressage rider Richard Davison, who is a four-time Olympian and former British number one, at his Staffordshire yard. Nicolle has high expectations for her career aiming for International Dressage competition eventually at Olympic level. Nicolle represents Great Britain at International level.
Nicolle, Asmir and their daughter Taylor, enjoy spending as much quality family time together as possible. Their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, called Louis, is practically the fourth member of the family, joining them wherever they go. Although Dressage and Football are a full-time occupation for both Nicolle and Asmir, Nicolle enjoys spending time at home with the family and indulging in other interests.
